SENSORY Bin Idea: Edible Mud Sensory Play
*Don't forget to use facial expressions, expressive words, and directional words when playing in the mud! ("eew", "yuck", "wiggle", "in", "out", are great words to use)
MOVEMENT: Now is the time to wake from our winter hibernation and go outside for play! Gill Connell & Cheryl McCarthy, authors of A Moving Child is a Learning Child have a TOP 10 list of what to look for in a Great Playground:
1. Hill: helps a child develop balance, intuition, and midlines
2. Tree: hang a swing. You can also let your little one under three hold onto a branch to get the feel of their strength, just don't let go just yet.
3. Modular elements: hoops, cones, blocks, and beams for new challenges.
4. Monkey Bars: climbing, hanging, swinging, upper body strength, balance, spatial awareness, midline development. Help support your little one to get the feel of it.
5. Swings: sense of rhythm and timing
6. Merry-go-round: balance
7. Planks and beams: balance
8. Tunnels: sense of how they fit into the world
9. See-saw: balance and social relationships
10. Slide: confidence, courage, and positive outlook on life.
DRESS UP/AVATAR Play: Planting & Gardening
Use what every you have available to create a garden theme. You might use an apron, hat, and gloves. You might have a shoe box available to "plant" your own flowers. Any way you decide a little imagination always helps!
